about

The studio that we worked from, Ferdi's headquarters, is located in the middle of the notorious harbors of Rotterdam. The view from the third floor is just astonishing; showing both the urban side and the narrow corridor that is the Maas river.
This inspired me to write this song. The lead guitar in the hook really illustrates that drifting sensation that I feel when I dive deep into my emotions when (I'm) writing a song. The metaphors in this song are a direct result of that.

lyrics

3. The Ocean

Verse One - Steve Cyning:
Sitting on the crescent moon, swinging our legs.
Staring at the stars is a thing of the past.
High above the earth without the fear of falling.
I'm reflecting on my dreams but the globe is small.
So I take it to the universe: follow my heart.
Pick up a pencil; fill the void beyond the stars.
Inspired by the twilight I write mine.
Scatter transparent letters across the night sky.
I saw the sun dancing on the raindrops, turn my desert to a well.
It made the overcast break up. It's a message, not a spell.
It's the very reason why I be chasing my dreams:
It's my season: My footprints are planting my seeds.
One day I'll look back and see 'em full grown,
as they whisper to the skyline that the path that I choose
is of hope, is of love, first and fore most my own.
Whether it's baseball of Hip Hop, till God brings me home.

Hook:
“These are small boats”
“It's a big ocean.”
“There's a language barrier.”
“If I disappear and drift away from this boat...”

Verse Two - Steve Cyning:
I wrote to you these letters; feelings bottled up.
Spinning 'round it's axis, the ocean of applause.
Waves of sound crashing, full circles on the clock.
It stretches the scripture of sea around the rock.
It's sunken syllables are arising from it's womb.
I hope the sun is reading through reflection of the moon.
Read between the lines so we get on the same page.
Read at the same pace, whether you're the audience or center stage.
Love, Lyrics and the Lioness, my piece.
It became way more than just a title on the record sleeve.
I hope you see the love, feel the tears, taste the blood.
My dreams be the stars reflecting in my flood.
Connect the dots: From Gravitate to Legendary.
Explain my dreams. Call me a visionary.
I treasure dreams, kinda like what Joseph did.
It's the ocean in my verse, but, ey, shit.

Hook

Poem - Steve Cyning:
The sun is dumping honey in the ocean
so the tide will survive.
The stars be my dreams
and the ocean (..?) is my mind.
The day is at it's end.
The night revealing many lights.
I'm aiming for the stars so the tide will survive.

HOOK

OUTRO:
“And people found out.
They laughed at me and you know all these things.
And I'm like: Man, I don't care. I think it's cool and, you know,
I'm learning a lot and..Some of my friends have jobs!!"

about

Steve Cyning Rotterdam, Netherlands

Steve Cyning staat voor dromen in koninklijk meervoud. Diepe metaforen en heldere beeldspraak, geïnspireerd door koningen uit een mythisch verleden.

"Mijn gedachten zijn als een diepe, inktzwarte oceaan. Onstuimig of kalm. Altijd vol leven.
Mijn dromen zijn de sterren van de oneindigheid, die de duisternis doorboren. Die reflecteren in mijn oceaan en zorgen voor een majestueus schouwspel."
